Taxonomy
English names for species and taxonomic order used on this website are now in accordance with Christidis & Boles 2008. If you spot any errors in names or order, please let us know.
What's new?
- Bird species links from the Outing Sites accessed from the Recent Outings Page have been revised and upgraded. Of the 241 species seen on outings to the end of 2009, there are now links to photographs of 187 of these species.
- The Members' Contributions Page has been deleted from the website. With only 7 contributions in 2 1/2 years there was insufficient interest to retain it.
- A new page, MELBOCA Photography Group has been created. Sonja Ross is managing this page. Check out this page and its links for some great photos and more information about the MELBOCA Photography Group and its activities.
- Have you kept records of birds seen in your garden or a local park? If so, and you are prepared to share this information, go to the Backyard Birds section on the MELBOCA News Page.
- Hazel & Alan Veevers are the new Beginners' Outing Leader/Co-ordinator commencing in 2010. For full details go to the MELBOCA News Page.
- John Young is the new Coach Tours Coordinator. For full details go to the MELBOCA News Page
- MELBOCA has received a brochure entitled 'Bird Trails of the Weddin Shire' giving details of Birding Trails in the Grenfell area and a comprehensive Bird List for the area. Grenfell is in NSW, about midway between Parkes and Young. All details can be downloaded from their website by clicking www.grenfell.org.au/birdtrails Of possible interest to people considering visiting the area is that in March 2009, a flock of c 30 Turquoise Parrots was observed in the Weddin State Forest - a magnificent sighting.
- Links have now been provided to PENBOC (Mornington Peninsula Branch of BOCA) and the Friends of Royal Park. Check out these links from the Useful Links Page to find out more about these oganizations and their birding activities.
